South London Athletics Network(4) Competition at Tooting Bec

The South London Athletics Networkhosted another successful Quadkids competition at Tooting Bec Track on SundayOctober 30th in overcast conditions but thankfully the rain stayed away. 66 athletes competed from Sutton and District AC, Herne Hill Harriers, BrixtonRecreational Group, Belgrave Harriers, South London Harriers and WandsworthBorough Athletics team.  Athletes took part in a sprint 75/100m, 600/800mrace, Vortex throw & long jump with many encountering their first evertaste of an organised competition.

 

The competition was fierce throughout withmany athletes achieving personal bests on the day.

The event was hosted by Herne HillHarriers and special thanks must go to Steve Bosley, Ivor Northey, Debbie Cook,Rosalee Mason, Horace Williams and Paul Lockyer (Sutton & District AC) aswell as the many parents who rolled up their sleeves and helped fill some ofthe important official roles.

 

The event was the first of a series ofQuadkids events the Network plan to put on in the coming months. The next eventwill take place at Tooting Bec on Sunday December 18th 10am.

 

Quadkids includes the four core disciplines of running, throwing, jumpingand sprinting - hence 'Quad'. Aathletes'performances are scored against results tables and the team/athlete with the highest cumulative points is the winner. The events forUnder 11’s are 75m sprint, 600 run, Long jump and Howler throw. For Under 13’sthe events are 100m sprint, 800m Run, Long Jump and Howler throw.

All competitorsreceived a certificate with their individual score on the day.
