05 September 2010 -  North London Athletics Network event # 4

Momentum for the monthly North London Athletics Network (NLAN) event continues to grow at an exciting pace.

Event 4 in the Network series on Sunday 5th September attracted almost 70 children and while many came from existing clubs an encouraging number were from the local area, with no previous athletic experience who had heard via word of mouth about the monthly series.

In terms of star performances two individuals stand out, Arnold Mensuoh snaffled an outstanding 295 points, and although a tad older (12 in October) Arnold's achievements certainly warrant a 'watch this space' for 2011 YAL results. And also in the girls competition Natasha Kelly Head scorched to 193 and came tantalisingly close to cracking the iconic 200 points barrier.

However, perhaps the biggest cheer of the day went to 4yr old Ashley O'Riley who yet again got stuck into the 600m with aplomb and as per normal had to be stopped from doing another lap, elite ultra runner in the making?

Congratulations to all children who took part and made it such an exciting and good natured event. As per normal Graham Norris will be issuing medals to those individuals of all ages who have shown the best % improvement since the last event, all details will be available via the Highgate Harriers website - www.highgateharriers.org.uk

All individual results from today's event can be found via QuadKids web link below:
http://www.quadkids.org/counties/Results.aspx?eventID=1121&countyID=102&hasResults=true&meetingID=958&startDate=&endDate=&type=All%20results&boroughID=

Yet again a crucial big thanks must go to the club officials, volunteers and parents who have made this event possible and so enjoyable.

Finally thanks to all the children who made the event so exciting and and so good natured, Deborah Laing the Network Development Officer will be emailing your parents very soon about the date of the 5th event in October, so keep training and focusing on that technique!

See you all very soon.

03 September 2010 -  Enfield Grammar Whole Year Pilot

In pristine white sports kit, the newest additions to Enfield Grammar's fine sporting tradition spent day two of their enrolment enjoying the first of possibly several QuadKids events as a key tool for their esteemed PE department to measure physical progression.

In terms of winning teams Myddeleton House reigned supreme and showed outstanding cohesive and supportive teamwork for a group who have only been together for 48 hours.

Full individual results can be found via: http://www.quadkids.org/counties/Results.aspx?eventID=1120&countyID=102&hasResults=true&meetingID=957&startDate=&endDate=&type=All%20results&boroughID=

For their inaugural event and ensuring almost 200 children completed each event on schedule, it was a remarkable speedy achievement. However, it would not have been possible without Alastair Cook & Julie Brown and indeed the fantastic help of Enfield's Sue Chick & Paula Felgate, plus a host of fantastic sports development team members.

We look forward to coming back to Enfield Grammar very soon and highlighting those pupils with the greatest QuadKids score improvement.

Keep training Year 7 and see you very soon!

01 September 2010 -  Sale Harriers Manchester hold their first QuadKids Event

Yesterday evening saw Sale Harriers hosting their first ever QuadKids event at Crossford Bridge Athletics Track in Trafford. Coaches at Sale Harriers wanted to try something different with their young athletes on one of their training nights and decided to put on a fun QuadKids event.

89 children took part in the QuadKids events from 3 different age groups, Under 9s, Under 11s and Under 13s. All the children completed the 4 events and were awarded with a certificate at the end of the night with their own individual score.

31 August 2010 -  Inaugural Essex Network QuadKids event

As the countryside trees begin to turn their leaf colour towards an autumn hue, the first Essex Network QuadKids event proved that for some summer has only begun. Under a clear blue sky this first QuadKids event in conjunction with the newly created Network was a screaming & cheering success.

With over 100 children entered for the first event and receiving their first ever QuadKids score, the atmosphere was tangibly positive with children and parents alike excited by seeing August out with an athletic bang.

Huge thanks to Karl Cadman of Benfleet, Wendy Tydeman of Basildon AC and Zena Shean of East Essex Tri for helping get the event off the ground and making such a positive platform to build upon for the future. Massive hearty thanks also to all the helpers on the day, without of which such a great event could not have happened.

We had some fantastic individual results, all of which can be seen via the QuadKids website link below, but as discussed at the prize giving, the most intriguing aspect of our regular QuadKids Network events is when we are able to celebrate those children who make the biggest % improvement, regardless of age or size....

...so children start practising, remember your coaching points and get ready for the real test at our next Essex QuadKids event to be announced shortly!

Results for August 31st - http://www.quadkids.org/counties/Results.aspx?eventID=1116&countyID=16&hasResults=true&meetingID=955&startDate=&endDate=&type=All%20results&boroughID=

Keep training and we look forward to seeing you all soon!

10 August 2010 -  North London Network event #3

Parliament Hill played host again to the third QuadKids event last Sunday (8th August), organised by the North London Athletics Network, Highgate Harriers and QuadKids.

This proved to be the most successful event to date with nearly 60 primary school children from the local area, including many new children and significantly plenty who had no previous club association taking part in this exciting new athletics format for the first time.

The children took part in a 75m sprint, 600m run, long jump and vortex throw with points being given for each performance. At the end of the competition each athlete was given a QuadKids certificate with the number of points achieved, and the most improved boy and girl were both awarded a medal.

Full results from last Sunday can be found via the link below:
http://www.quadkids.org/counties/Results.aspx?eventID=1103&countyID=102&hasResults=true&meetingID=943&startDate=&endDate=&type=All%20results&boroughID=

Given the growing success of these North London Athletics Network competitions another two events are planned for September, with Finsbury Park track playing host on September 23rd from 5pm and an additional date at Parliament Hill to be announced shortly – watch this space for more details.

Also arranged within the Network is a QuadKids event for Camden's disabled and special needs children on 29th September at Parliament Hill, with an adapted QuadKids format to enable all to take part. This event will be the first of it's kind, and is being organised by Highgate Harriers, QuadKids and Camden's Disability Sports Officer Ben Dorsett.

Well done to all and we look forward to seeing you all again in September!

06 August 2010 -  QuadKids used as the finale to Manchester Harriers & AC StarTrack week

QuadKids competitions were held today for children attending a Startrack summer camp organised and ran by Manchester Harriers & AC. The QuadKids competitions featured as the finale to the week, helping to finish off a successful week of athletics activities.

Manchester Harriers & AC use Startrack as part of their athletics summer camps for children each year and this weeks camp attracted around 50 children.

At 9.30am, the competition started with all the children being allocated into either the Start group (Years 3 or 4) , the Primary group (Years 5 or 6) or the Secondary group (Years 7 or 8). All 3 groups rotated around the different events and by 11.30am all the children had done all 4 events, each acquiring their own individual score and then started doing some fun relays to finish!

Presentations were held, including both the Startrack awards and the QuadKids medals and certificates. Lots of fun was had by all children involved, with each child coming away with a Startrack goodybag and certificates from QuadKids and StarTrack.

03 August 2010 -  End of season update

Hi to all who got involved in the Quadkids athletics programmes this summer.......a few lines on the season and into 2011.

some stats........10   events
                    1578  athletes taking part
                       53  schools competing
                       70 young leaders trained
these are just the events that I know of....I'm sure there are others out there who I have not heard from ...get in touch !!

The young leaders have been brilliant this season and really made events come alive.  They have been enthusiastic, organised and sensitive to the children they are helping.......great to see when often young teenagers get a bad press.

The athletes provided us with some great competition and I am looking forward to more of the same next year.....I already have some dates for my diary but still room for plenty more.

To all the areas that were not involved this year....Winchester; Petersfield; Farnborough; New Forest ........get in touch asap and lets see what can be organised for next year.   I am happy to come to meetings of staff, do training for young leaders & staff on how QK works and am always on hand for advise and support for events etc throughout the year peter@quadkids.org ......lets see what we can achieve in 2011.   Quadkids can work alongside other athletics events or stand alone.......school and club level comps can be sorted!

A big thank you to all the coordinators who worked so hard to get QK events going in their areas ...keep in touch and if i can help just ask!
I'm sure many saw the GB Team do well in Europe last week...let hope this encourages more athletics in Hampshire for 2011

03 August 2010 -  End of season update

Hi to all who got involved with the Quadkids Athletics programmes this season........a few lines to bring this season to a close but also looking forward to next year too!

Some stats........23 different events throughout the county
1886 athletes took part in Quadkids events
                       50 different schools competed
                      250 young leaders trained

A word about the young leaders......without them Quadkids would not have been the success it was...their enthusiasm, sensitivity towards the young athletes and organisational abilities made many events a great memory for the children competing.  The staff responsible for the leaders should also take a bow as they have instilled a great sense of responsibility into their students.

We have seen some excellent competition across the county and am I looking forward to next year with some excitment and already have some dates in my diary.....but always room for more.  All the athletes strived to do their best and it was great to see the support for each other as they battled to do well for their schools.

A big thank you to all the coordinators of the various events, teachers, mums & dads for your efforts to bring athletics to Dorset.  Many young athletes have moved from school activities to the athletics clubs and with the GB Team doing so well in Europe last week let us hope this encourages more people to get involved in Dorset in 2011.
